A Visitor Visa, also called a Temporary Resident Visa (TRV), allows a foreign national to enter Canada for short stays—typically for tourism, to visit family, or for business. Once approved, the visa shows up in your passport and gives you legal entry for the period granted. Depending on your circumstances, you may need to provide proof of assets, travel plans, or ties to your home country to satisfy IRCC. Visit IRCC’s official Visitor Visa guide for detailed application steps and requirements.
A Study Permit is required if you plan to study full-time at a Designated Learning Institution (DLI) in Canada. It’s not a visa on its own—you may also need a TRV or eTA depending on your country of origin. When applying for a study permit, you must provide proof of acceptance, proof of funds (to cover tuition + living costs), and a study plan or explanation letter. IRCC evaluates whether you intend to study and whether you have the financial and academic capacity to do so.
